Topics presented include principles of structural integration, anatomy, movement and touch. It is designed to introduce the new student, with little or no experience in anatomy and bodywork, to the principals involved and to bring the student up to speed with the more experienced students.
During the first intensive students will learn an overview to the extrinsic and intrinsic anatomical systems as it applies to the sessions. As well they will learn to hold the space while working with their clients and begin to observe patterns in movement and the body. Observing sessions from various faculty, they will gain understanding of the series and the movement and dialogue that is attached to each session.
This will be a time to clarify and consolidate knowledge gained in the first Intensive through study, writing and dialogue on a one to one basis with a mentor or in a mentor class. During this time the student will observe and assist in two series of Hellerwork.
Students will develop basic somatic counseling skills as well as going deeper into palpation anatomy, and the art of instilling a kinesthetically-based sense of movement and body awareness. Basic business skills will be introduced. The students will observe and do a series under supervision.
Again, through study, writing and dialogue the student will deepen into the work learned in the second Intensive. During this time the student will also do a Hellerwork Series on a model under supervision.
This session focus on integrating the skills learned to date and preparing the student to enter practice for their practicum phase. The student will see and do a series and be asked to take the client “deeper” into the process. Business and three-dimensional movement will be emphasized as well as the background and a look forward into the future of your “structural integration” practice and Hellerwork in general.
During this phase the student will be asked to do and document 120 sessions as a practitioner. These sessions need to be done as part of the series.
