Art of Touch

This is where it all begins.  By blending Tai Chi, Chi Gung, Structural Body Work and Client Feed Back we begin to look at how we do our work.  Where does true power come from and how do we translate it into our strokes?  How does a shift in how we think change the experience of the client? Can we set our intention and have the client experience the difference?  All of these things are explored, in depth, to help take our work to the next level.  The aim is to make the client feel more comfortable as we work, release the holding patterns in the most gentle way possible and still look after ourselves in the process.

A true blending of mind, body and spirit that can be experienced by the practitioner as well as being communicated somatically to our clients.

Myofacial Junctions: Working the Edge

These techniques are more suited to sessions 8, 9 and 10 and involve a deepening into our understanding of how the fascia is connected and how it interplays through the periostum.  I first discovered this technique while working deeply on a scapula.  Something released and took off under my fingers.  At the same client noticed the release radiate out from the point I was working, like ripples in a pond throughout her body.  By focusing on the tendinal and ligimentus connections where they attach at those areas of the bones freed up in our previous work we can have a deep and far reaching affect on the whole area.

If facial trains connect the fascia of the body as suggested by Thomas Myers then these points are the stations or, more accurately, the switching yards that can send the facial release to any or all areas of the body.

Using the techniques of focus and working to depth learned in the ‘Art of Touch’ you will feel the connection points and the resultant release that radiates out in all directions into the system.

The ABC of Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most prevalent problems in our society. Hellerwork is one of the best treatments for the problem; after all it's mostly structural (except for the emotional component). In this workshop we explore the 3 main structural causes of back pain and their release.

A) We all know about Quadratus Lumborum and the affects it has on the lumbar, 12th rib and pelvis. First we look at how we can get release in this area. It's a deeper look at Session 3 and 6 and is the most common cause and release for low back pain.

B) Next we explore iliopsoas and its relationship to the lumbar spine. When you have given Q L your best work and the problems still persist this is the next best bet. Psoas holds the key to deep release and releasing throughout the abdominal area. When the space exists for the lumbar spine to “fall back” tension is released from that area and the muscles can let go of their holding patterns. We also look at how Iliacus can affect the pelvis and especially the sacroiliac joint "freezing the sacrum". This is an exploration, in depth, of the work we do in session 4.

C) What do we do when we have worked both these main areas and the problem persists? The next area to explore is the triangular areas on the front of the pelvis defined by the superior pubic ramus, the anterior superior and inferior iliac spine and the inguinal ligament. By releasing the myofacial tissue in, above and below this area we allow the pelvis to "drop back" into a more relaxed and balanced position sending a message of release through the pelvis to the sacrum, spine, ribs and neck/head area.

With the new found freedom of movement our clients are better ready to face some of the emotional challenges that may have contributed to the problem in the first place.
